Welcome!
So here goes our first attempt at creating a blog. We thought it would be a good way for us to remember the details of our experience, but also to share it with interested others :).
Penny and I are knocking off an item on our bucket list: walking one section of the famous El Camino de Santiago in Spain! We plan to walk the part of the Santiago called El Camino del Norte, up along the northern coast of Spain. The full traditional Camino is more than 800 km, starting in southern France, ending up in Santiago de Compostella, Spain. We are walking from Luarca to Santiago de Compostella, a distance of 213 km, in about 12 days.
We arrived in Asturia yesterday, and plan to bus to and start our walk at Luarca today, with a short and easy introductory walk of about 13 km, sleeping in Villapedre tonight.

The reason we are posting two days as one is because that really was our experience! We lost a night somewhere and don’t know where it went :). Leaving Vancouver for Frankfurt late afternoon on Friday, we flew in daylight/sunshine for almost 10 hours, arriving early afternoon Saturday. Neither of us got much sleep on that flight, but that was no problem because we had 2 more flights following that for the opportunity to sleep - a delayed 2.5 hour flight to hot Madrid, and then a 1.5 hour jaunt to Asturia. I guess I could say we then enjoyed a fourth flight, as the taxi to our hotel gained speeds of more than 140 km/h in 80 km/h zones... but we finally arrived at our cozy and oh-so-European little hotel, safe and sound Saturday night. After a little outing to check out this sleepy little town, we crashed after watching an amazing fireworks show provided by a wedding going on next to our hotel!
Pictures coming soon as soon as I can figure out how to easily add them!
